RE: Systemic gender bias against male victims of domestic violence as demonstrated by the CPS

Dear Sgt. Janvier,

After our telephone conversation I started writing you a letter; presently it is 14 pages long and I am only at the beginning of point 2 of 4 points. The letter is documented and referenced.

As I acknowledge this letter is turning into an academic paper with a vast amount of information supporting my statements, hence I will try to put on one page what I am expressing in the longer version.

From our conversation and my past experiences with CPS I am understandably seen as the “enemy”, but from my point of view I am a purveyor of information as a responsible citizen offering constructive feedback. I want to work with CPS rather than be involved in opposite sides.

I am a better writer than fighter, I speak with analogies, metaphors, rhetorical questions and scientific studies, but I am not the best writer and I do make mistakes. So please do not take what I offer as an attack, if it does sound like an attack I wrote it the wrong way and I am willing to clarify the issue before it is taken out of context.

For example; would the CPS sit at a community faith committee made up with the various religious denominations if the Muslim [any religious group could be put here] community was excluded from the discussion?

I would hazard a guess that CPS would remove themselves from this biased committee or ask to include the excluded group. The exclusion is religious discrimination and not CPS policy to be in the position to be seen as discriminatory.

If this example of CPS responding to religious bias is valid then I raise the question; why then does CPS sit at a community domestic violence committee (collective) that purposefully excludes the “male voice” [the voice advocating for men’s needs] from participating in the discussion?

Is this, likewise, discrimination on the basis of gender, a human rights protected grounds, as is religion, a protected human rights ground, of excluding a specific group from discussion in which CPS is present? Is promoting either bias in the CPS policy? Is this exclusion considered a “hate crime”?

At times I feel like the little boy who was watching the parade and said “the king is not wearing any clothes…” everyone else saw clothes because they were told he was wearing his new suit. I resort to studies, research and science based facts when I speak to the issues of male victims of domestic violence and the lack of equitable support services as well as a voice in the community; I am not alone;

I hope CPS can now see me as a contributor to the reduction of domestic violence rather than the enemy in an attempt to work together; I hold a white flag.
